Goals
The goals of the LEGS- GSL program are wide and varied, all promoting self-sufficiency abroad, while enhancing education at home.
These goals include:
- Creating “training hubs” in strategic locations around the world. These hubs will be easily accessible to the short-term operations of LEGS and would have open source materials, such as training manuals, videos, or other types of equipment that are involved in the LEGS program readily available to the local population.
- These “training hubs” would be run by local individuals who have been trained by the LEGS team, and can effectively run a hub using the LEGS technology. These hubs will also offer non-technical solutions, such as wordless training manuals, or rehabilitation protocols.
- Producing and delivering any LEGS product within a 5 to 8 year period. This time allows for proper research and development and continuous follow-up work to assure that the best possible options are being pursued.
- Partnering with 2 to 3 major NGOs worldwide to help enhance the reach of LEGS globally while creating a consistent and stable partnership.
- Continue to grow the LEGS staff so that research and development can be carried out effectively, as well as follow up work.
- Expanding GSL programs such as small plot irrigation, and visual literacy: and increase student involvement in all GSL programs to maximize the opportunity for Global Service Learning.
- Expand the LEGS operation into India, Eastern Europe, Central and South America, where there is still great need for the services offered by LEGS, particularly with its prosthetic components.
